Obituary for Evelyn Walsh

“And when great souls die, after a period peace blooms.”

Well-loved and Renowned Missionary Evelyn V. Walsh
July 22, 1937 – September 6, 2022

Mother Walsh passed away peacefully at home with her children at her bedside. A native of White Hill, St. Mary, Jamaica West Indies, Mother Walsh migrated to United States in in 1978 with her family making Brooklyn, New York, her home until her death. Mother Walsh was known for her love of God, and people…especially among the youths whom she treated as her own. Young people loved her because they recognized a kindred spirit ...”she was the oldest member of the Youth Choir.”

She was a member of the Shiloh Apostolic Church in Jamaica, West Indies, First United Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic, Inc. on Utica Avenue and Victory Shiloh Church, on Avenue L in Brooklyn, New York. Her faith in God was always reflected in her actions, words, and countenance. Her continual words of encouragement even in the most challenging of times were received as a “refreshing drink of water in a dry and thirsty land.”

Mother Walsh completed her undergraduate degree at a late age as she believed education was very important. She was an example to her children and others around her in that education was seen as the key to success. Below is an insightful poem that was shared with her children and all others whom she “counseled”.

“Labor for learning before you grow old;
For learning is better than silver or gold.
Silver and gold will vanish away,
But a good education will never decay.”

Along with education was the foundation of Jesus Christ and His redeeming blood. On her travels nationally and internationally she always spoke about God’s Grace and His love, spreading the news of Salvation. She loved Jimmy Swaggart Ministries and Bible Broadcasts. She learned how to use Zoom to be “present” for Church Service during the era of COVID mitigation strategies. She was a very humble soul and sought peace in all her relationships and friendships. Her radiance acted as a magnet and drew many people to the Kingdom of God.

Isaiah 51:6
Lift up your eyes to the heavens and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be forever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

Mother Walsh is survived by three siblings – Norma, Daphne, and Cherry; her children – Robert, Ingrid, Garnett, Kenneth, Phyllis, Christine, Ian, Joan, Charles, Carlene and Eric; grand children – Sahara Lynn, Nannearl, Gregory, Kenneth, Jessica, Cairo (Jaylyn), Julia, Aiden, Chardae, Charles, Jr., Maya, Brendan and Sabrina; great grandchildren – Jacob, Julius and baby Gianna.
