June Modeste aka Joan was born on Nov 19 th , 1961, in Paradise, St. Andrews to Veda Modeste and
James Lessey.
June started her primary education at the St. Louis RC Girls School (Mother Rose), then unto Wesley 0.+
College and the Presentation Brothers College her secondary education.
In 1987, She migrated to the USA to start her new life. Over the years she worked in several capacities at
businesses and establishments including Duane Reade Pharmacy, the World Trade Center, and finally
the Sunnyside Public Library in Queens, New York.
Her spirit of love and caring also saw her venturing into a Day Care Center for kids where she extended
that nurturing character. She provided among other services, after school assistance to students in
several subject areas.
Anyone who encountered June during her stay on this earth would have been impressed by her
willingness to always lend a hand voluntarily no matter the nature of the task. She was always focused
on getting things done in a timely manner and exercised a great level of independence even during her
very difficult days.
She was a lover of plants and possessed a “Green Thumb” which was evident by the flowers she
maintained in her surroundings.
Her calm demeanor and shy smile could easily be mistaken for an easy walkover but she was firm,
resolute, straight forward and non-compromising on her decisions.
Unfortunately, in 2011 June was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor and her life took a dramatic turn.
Surgery was performed followed by a year of rehab, however, she was confronted with many health
challenges which she faced head on. Days, weeks, months and years went by with limited mobility and
ability to communicate effectively. Her loving sister and care taker Lyn served as her translator
whenever required.
June succumbed to her ailment on August 11 th , 2018.
Left to mourn are her many siblings including: Leslie, Keith, General, Lynn, Albie, Buchanan, Urban,
Trevor, Douglas, Keith, Bentley, Claudette, Kennedy and Devon , Her Aunt: Hildred, Her brother in Law :
Wayne St. Louis, Many nieces and Nephews
Many Cousins other relatives and close friends including: The Modeste family in Trinidad, The
Lessey families of La Digue and Richmond, Ruby Francis, Pearline Modeste and Esther Francis Williams,
friends and neighbors of Paradise and the USA.
She will surely be missed by all! Sleep in Peace our Dear Sister!
